Here are some detail pictures of my car from the outside! The paint is a 3 stage paint job. It is blue cobalt candy over a black pearl base with 6 coats of clear. After painting, I spent 2 weeks block sanding it from 600 to 2000 grit and filled in every fish eye. The result is a glass smooth paint job that is extremely deep and looks black until the sunlight hits it, at which point it turns a very deep blue. In the trunk is a 15 gallon Fuel Safe fuel cell filled with foam to reduce sloshing and has a special compartment for fuel injected motors to ensure that even when low on fuel in a hard corner, the fuel pump won't pick up air and begin to cavitate. Since the old fuel tanks are no longer being used, why not use the space for storage of tow straps, jacks, and any other tool I may need while on the road. I cut an opening in the side of the tanks, welded on a hinge, and installed two spring loaded levers to hold the door closed. This storage method also ensured that things wouldn't be flying around in the trunk, possibly giving me an "outty" bump. I’ve learned from experience. I had a 3rd member in the trunk of my moms BMW and as I hauled ass around a corner I heard it start to roll. Then I heard the bang, and after I got home I found a baseball size bump pushing out from the trunk in the rear quarter panel. Yup, that didn't go over too well! |
